Key impacts by origin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>China \u2014 12.5% additional duty<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Stacks on top of the standard MFN rate and existing Section 301 China-specific duties (7.5%\u201325% depending on product). Unlike the EU, Japan, South Korea, and Switzerland \u2014 where the duty is capped or netted against existing MFN rates \u2014 China&#8217;s 12.5% applies as a full additional charge with no offset. Scope note for plastics, rubber, and silicone: Plastic is exempt only when used as a civil aircraft part or component; Rubber is exempt only for civil aircraft purposes; Silicone is exempt only for pharmaceutical applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>India \u2014 10% additional duty<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Exemptions apply for: steel, aluminum, copper, civil aircraft, semiconductors, wood products, and vehicles. Patented pharmaceuticals are also exempt, effective July 31, 2026. The same material-specific scope limitations for plastic, rubber, and silicone apply as noted under China above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mexico \u2014 10% additional duty<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>USMCA-qualifying goods are fully exempt. Non-USMCA qualifying goods are subject to the 10% duty. No changes to duty treatment for aluminum, steel, or copper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Canada \u2014 10% additional duty<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>USMCA-qualifying goods are fully exempt. Non-USMCA qualifying goods are subject to the 10% duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Global exemptions:<\/strong> Goods subject to Section 232 (steel, aluminum, copper, vehicles) are exempt from this new duty across all origins. Prototypes (HTS 9817.85.01) are also exempt per<a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/bulletins\/gd\/USDHSCBP-421d887?wgt_ref=USDHSCBP_WIDGET_2\"> CSMS 69326983<\/a>, as they fall under Chapter 98 of the HTSUS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>April 2, 2026 \u2013 Section 232 Tariff Changes on Steel, Aluminum, &amp; Copper Derivative<\/strong>s<br>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/04\/strengthening-actions-taken-to-adjust-imports-of-aluminum-steel-and-copper-into-the-united-states\/\" title=\"\">flat 25% duty now applies to the full value of derivative articles<\/a> substantially made of these metals, replacing the prior method of taxing only the metals component. Articles made entirely or almost entirely of steel, aluminum, or copper face a flat 50% tariff on their full value. Products made abroad using exclusively American steel, aluminum, or copper are subject to a reduced 10% tariff. Products containing 15% or less of these metals are no longer subject to Section 232 tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>February 20, 2026 \u2013 Supreme Court Ruling on IEEPA Tariffs<\/strong> <br>The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/25pdf\/24-1287_4gcj.pdf\">does not authorize the President to impose tariffs<\/a>. Following the IEEPA ruling, President Trump issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/02\/ending-certain-tariff-actions\/\">separate executive order<\/a> continuing the suspension of de minimis (duty-free) treatment for low-value shipments, asserting this authority survives independent of IEEPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>February 6, 2026 \u2013 U.S.-India Interim Trade Agreement<\/strong> <br>President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2026\/02\/fact-sheet-the-united-states-and-india-announce-historic-trade-deal\/\">eliminated the additional 25% tariff on Indian imports<\/a> (imposed in August 2025 over Russian oil purchases) and announced a framework reducing the remaining reciprocal tariff on Indian goods from 25% to 18%. Section 232 tariffs on certain Indian aircraft and parts were removed, and India received a preferential tariff rate quota for automotive parts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>January 15, 2026 \u2013 25% Section 232 Tariff on Semiconductors<\/strong> <br>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/01\/adjusting-imports-of-semiconductors-semiconductor-manufacturing-equipment-and-their-derivative-products-into-the-united-states\/\" title=\"\">25% ad valorem tariff applies to certain advanced computing chips<\/a> and specified derivative products under Section 232.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>December 24, 2025 \u2013 Future China Semiconductor Tariffs Announced<\/strong> <br>The U.S. announced new tariffs on semiconductors imported from China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasnet.com\/insights\/china-tariffs\/\" title=\"\">starting June 23, 2027<\/a>, with an 18-month 0% transition period before a tariff rate (TBD) takes effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>November 10, 2025 \u2013 10% Tariff Reduction on Chinese Imports<\/strong> <br>As part of the new U.S.-China trade and economic agreement, the U.S. will implement a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/11\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-strikes-deal-on-economic-and-trade-relations-with-china\/\">10% tariff reduction on Chinese imports<\/a>. This marks a partial rollback of Section 301 tariffs in exchange for China\u2019s commitments on fentanyl precursor controls and easing of export restrictions on critical minerals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 29, 2025 \u2013 De Minimis Exemption Ends<\/strong> <br>International shippers suspended small-package deliveries to the U.S. as President Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/suspending-duty-free-de-minimis-treatment-for-all-countries\/\">removal of the $800 duty-free threshold takes effect<\/a>, raising costs for consumers and complicating global e-commerce supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 27, 2025 \u2013 US Tariffs on India Take Effect<\/strong> <br>President Trump raised tariffs on most Indian imports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/08\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-addresses-threats-to-the-united-states-by-the-government-of-the-russian-federation\/\">from 25% to 50%<\/a>, punishing Delhi for Russian oil purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 11, 2025 \u2013 China Tariff Deadline Extended<\/strong> <br>The President signed an executive order granting a 90-day extension (until November 9) on the China tariff deadline, keeping May\u2019s rates (30% on Chinese imports) in place and avoiding a return to triple-digit rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 6, 2025 \u2013 India Tariff Increase<\/strong> <br>The President announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/addressing-threats-to-the-united-states-by-the-government-of-the-russian-federation\/\">50% tariff on imports from India<\/a>, doubling the current 25% rate. The new 25% duty\u2014stacking on top of the existing 25%\u2014will take effect within 21 days (August 27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 1, 2025 \u2013 50% Tariff on Copper Products<\/strong> <br>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/adjusting-imports-of-copper-into-the-united-states\/\">new 50% tariff<\/a> took effect on all imports of semi-finished copper products and intensive copper derivative products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>July 30, 2025 \u2013 De Minimis Suspension<\/strong> <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/suspending-duty-free-de-minimis-treatment-for-all-countries\/\">All low-value shipments<\/a> (under $800, formerly duty-free under Section 321) from <em>all countries<\/em> will now be subject to duties beginning August 29. Previously (May 2025), only shipments from China and Hong Kong were affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>July 7, 2025 \u2013 Prototype Exemption Restored<\/strong> <br>Prototypes of all types, including those containing aluminum or steel, were officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/trade\/programs-administration\/entry-summary\/232-tariffs-aluminum-and-steel-faqs\">exempted from tariffs again<\/a>, reversing the March Section\u202f 232 imposition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>June 3, 2025 \u2013 Steel &amp; Aluminum Tariffs Doubled<\/strong> <br>Section\u202f232 tariffs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/06\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-increases-section-232-tariffs-on-steel-and-aluminum\/\">increased from 25% to 50%<\/a> for most countries, effective June 4. The UK rate remained at 25\u202f% through July \u202f9 under its Economic Prosperity Deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>June 3, 2025 \u2013 Stacking Rules<\/strong> <br>A <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/bulletins\/gd\/USDHSCBP-3e36e5e?wgt_ref=USDHSCBP_WIDGET_2\">proclamation<\/a> clarified that Section 232 (e.g., aluminum\/steel) tariffs take precedence over IEEPA tariffs for Canada and Mexico in cases of overlapping duties, effective June 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>May\/June 2025 \u2013 Court Ruling on IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) Tariffs<\/strong> <br>The U.S. Court of International Trade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/crs-product\/LSB11332\">struck down<\/a> portions of the April \u201cReciprocal\u201d 10% global tariff, citing presidential overreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>March 12, 2025 \u2013 Section\u202f 232 Imposed on Prototypes<\/strong> <br>A 25% tariff was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/06\/09\/2025-10524\/adjusting-imports-of-aluminum-and-steel-into-the-united-states\">implemented<\/a> on all aluminum and steel imports globally, including prototypes.
